Our February meeting will be on Feb 25th, not the previously announced date. This is now back to our normal schedule of the 4th Tuesday of the month. The speaker will be Ira Siebert teaching us about Indicator Fishing on Stillwaters.
He started gear fishing in Lake Kapowsin 37 years ago for crappie, perch and bluegill. After watching a fly fisherman work his talents on a local river Ira knew that it was only a matter of time before the fly rod became a more important tool in his arsenal. Twenty-five years ago he purchased his first fly rod and used it to troll flies around his favorite opening day lakes. At the time his vocabulary of flies included Wooly Worm, Pink Lady and that was about it. As a seasoned educator and life-long learner it didn’t take him long to understand that through study, questioning, and multiple days of “research” he could vastly improve his understanding of the sport. For the last 12 years he has focused most of his time and effort on fishing different zones of lakes using vertical presentations with an indicator. At first this technique applied only to fishing Chironomids. Over the last several years he has experimented with and modified the use of other common flies under an indicator with great success. His presentation will focus on fishing both Chironomids and other flies using a vertical presentation and an indicator. He will provide information about where, when, and how to use different flies as well as tying some of his favorite patterns.
